Abstract

Abortion is defined as the termination of pregnancy before the stage of independent, extrauterine fetal survival. Although there are isolated reports of the survival of extremely immature fetuses, even weighing less than 400 g at a gestational age of about 20 weeks, there is general acceptance of 500 g as the lower limit of survivability.
