Abstract

Optical systems are groups of components devised to form an image. The whole is made up from a succession of components of differing indices, reflectors or refractors, whose action on the electromagnetic radiation is governed by the laws of geometrical optics and wave theory. We recall these laws by determining the influence of the geometric and optical characteristics of the components on the quality of the image.
