Multiple Access Interference in Multi-beam CDMA-based LEO Satellite Systems
The multiple access interference in CDMA uplinks for a multi-beam LEO satellite system is analytically investigated. Instead of the simplified analyses in previous related work, a comprehensive model including the effects of spot beam antenna characteristics, mobile satellite link and power control is proposed to evaluate all possible interference in the system. It is shown that the multiple access interference in satellite CDMA is much more severe than that in terrestrial CDMA even when the interferes only within the given satellite’s footprint are considered. In particular, the interferers located outside the footprint but seen by the satellite are taken into account in our analysis. The results show that the interference from this category also has a substantial share in the total interference.
