Abstract
Interleukins 4 and 5 are two recently described lymphokines, which exist both in mouse and man1–5 Biochemical analysis and molecular cloning have aided in determining their structure as well as their function. It has recently become clear that lymphokines in general are not selective for a certain cell type and that they often have a broad range of activities. Although information regarding these activities is emerging with a very high speed, it is still uncertain what is their primary role in vivo and in what way their synthesis and action are regulated.
