Influence of Bearings in Turbomachinery Vibration

Journal-bearing dynamic characteristics are shown in the previous chapters to be of great complexity compared with characteristics of the simple elastic elements which turbine engineers frequently assume in vibration analysis. Some of the results established are briefly summarized below. In the bearing characteristics the disturbance forces include velocity components which are of the same order of magnitude as the displacement components, giving high damping. Additional complications arise from the nonreciprocal property of the displacement components and from the nonlinearity of the characteristics.
