Effects of Inertia of Oil on Dynamic Characteristics

  • Chapter
Journal Bearings in Turbomachinery

Zusammenfassung

In calculation of the steady-running characteristics of bearings it has been found that so long as the film-flow regime is laminar, little error is introduced by assuming that the inertia of the oil is negligible. The inertia of the oil must, however, be taken into account in assessing the liability to instability of the laminar-flow regime, and in making calculations for nonlaminar flow conditions.
