Abstract

The activities in this unit are designed to develop an understanding of the three main concepts inherent in dynamical systems that exhibit chaos. These concepts are mixing, periodicity, and sensitivity. Systems that are chaotic have all three of these characteristics mingled and merged within them. This is the reason why graphical iteration of different points in a chaotic system produces results that behave in widely different and unpredictable ways.
