Enzymatic Regeneration of ATP from AMP and ADP: Kinetic Studies with the Coupled Enzyme System

Abstract

Enzymatic pathways for the synthesis of many useful biological compounds involve the consumption of ATP. We have investigated an enzymatic scheme for economical regeneration of ATP from AMP or ADP as part of a feasibility study of large-scale, cell-free, enzymatic synthesis of a model compound, the cyclic decapeptide antibiotic gramicidin S (1).
