Brief Introduction to the Piezoelectric Effect
The piezoelectric effect is a characteristic exhibited by certain minerals (particularly dielectrics, but rarely, semiconductors), represented by an electrical polarization as the consequence of an applied mechanical force. It will be to our advantage to consider some aspects of electrical polarization in dielectrics before examining piezoelectric phenomena.
