Digital signal processing is an exciting new field for communications equipment designers. Many of the functions that were traditionally performed using analog circuits can now be accomplished more precisely using digital methods. Perhaps equally exciting is the flexibility that can be built into digital equipment, and the new features that can be incorporated, many of which were formerly not practical or economical.
