Abstract

When digital signal processing techniques were introduced into the field of wireless communication, they brought many changes. Digital signal processing, in combination with digital data communication, has allowed for the implementation of transparent and highly reliable wireless networks. Wireless networks offer to their users the automatic set-up of point-to-point communication links over a medium (free air) which is originally not suited for this type of application because it has to be shared by all users. With the availability of transparent point-to-point communication, the world of wireless communication has been opened for personal communication applications. Wireless communication is now not only limited anymore to a selected number of professional applications. Today, many wireless services becoming available for people to be used in their daily life. The market of personal communications is an enormously growing mass market and its impact on the evolution of wireless communication equipment has been accordingly.
