Abstract

A few years ago the world of wireless communications and its applications started to grow rapidly. The introduction of digital data transmission in combination with digital signal processing and a digital signal flow control, has created the breeding ground for the development of many new wireless applications. High quality digital networks for voice communication with global and local coverage, like the GSM and the DECT system, are only faint and early examples of the wide variety of wireless services that will become available on a large scale in the remainder of this decade. Applications will vary from very cheap low-end wireless e-mail services, over general purpose wireless identification and tracking systems, to fully equipped high performance portable multi-media terminals.
