Coating types and their uses

  • T. A. Turner
Chapter

Abstract

This chapter deals with the resin types commonly used in the formulation of coatings and inks for metal packaging and with the basic principles of the curing processes involved in the formation of dry films on both sheets and made-up containers. Where reaction mechanisms are presented, they are described in the simplest terms and intermediate reaction steps are, for simplicity, omitted. No attempt is made to cover all materials and only brief mention is made of the less well-known resins used, for example, as modifiers. Similarly coating formulation, which is substantially proprietary in nature, is not included.
