Noise shaping is a technique for increasing the resolution of analog-to-digital converters and digital-to-analog converters. The basic thought behind noise shaping is the exchange of resolution in time for resolution in amplitude. By increasing the resolution in time (oversampling) and by applying error feedback, the resolution and the theoretically achievable SNR of an ADC or DAC can be increased.
