Application-specific programmable architectures are considered the most promising design paradigm to cope with the ever increasing complexity of system-on-chip (SOC) designs . The appealing idea is to define a programmable platform tailored to a specific application domain at the price of restricted general-purpose properties. Such a platform is able to incorporate diametrical requirements like high processing power, flexibility and reusability together with moderate power consumption and hardware costs.
