Abstract
The problesm of how to deal with response behavior in the “indifference range” of stimulus intensity is one of the oldest in psychophysics; it has long been recognized that such behavior is not necessarily under the control of intensity alone. Indeed, to some extent, the history of the science is the story of various theoretical approaches to this problem.
