Product Customization

Abstract

A major step in the implementation process is product customization. This process fits the product to the organization. Any and all systems, purchased or developed from scratch, require some level of customization or configuration. The level of customization or configuration required is determined during the system selection process. The project team and the vendor enter into the contract with a mutual understanding of how long it will take to implement the product(s) purchased and have a sense of the work required to customize or configure the system to meet organizational requirements. After contract signing, the work begins to gather the information needed to configure and customize the product for implementation. This information is collected through requirements-gathering activities and workflow analysis using the project team and user input.
