The History of Rhytidectomy

  • Mario González-UIIoa

Abstract

Operations to counteract the process of aging have been directed mainly to the removal of facial wrinkles. Hence the term rhytidectomy (Greek ritis, wrinkle, and ektomi, excision). The present technical status of such operations is due to the combination of two forces. One is the constant, and constantly powerful, motive of vital men and women of every era to keep their facial and bodily appearance in youthful harmony with their inner feelings of strength and their vigor in action. The other is the progressive evolution of human thought and technical ability.
