Abstract

Most of the world’s non-renewable fuel resources and many of its metals and minerals are derived from sedimentary rocks, ranging in age from Archean to Cenozoic. Exploration for such resources requires an understanding of their relationship to host strata, whether they be primary deposits formed at the same time as the sediments, such as coal and placer minerals, or post-depositional deposits whose distribution depends on porosity and permeability trends in the sediments, such as epigenetic ore deposits and petroleum.
