Simplest Optimal Control Problem

The simplest optimal control problem is one that does not involve any states. Such a problem arises when it is possible to eliminate the states between the state differential equations, the performance index, and the prescribed boundary conditions. An example is the aircraft navigation problem discussed in Section 1.4.3.
