Managing Consulting Services: A Guide for the CIO

Abstract

The chief information officer (CIO) is responsible for the provision of information within the healthcare organization. This responsibility encompasses the accuracy, adequacy, availability, assimilation, and cost effectiveness of information as the needs of the organization evolve and dictate. The resources to meet the organization’s information systems requirements include computer hardware, computer software, internal personnel, vendor personnel, and consulting personnel. The personnel costs of implementing and maintaining new technology are a significant component of the total cost equation. Effective management of these personnel costs is key to maximization of information systems resources.
