Maximizing the Benefits of Using Consultants

  • Chapter
Healthcare Information Management Systems

Part of the book series: Computers in Health Care ((HI))

Abstract

Healthcare costs account for 12 percent of the United States’ gross national product (GNP). As cost containment measures have been implemented to address the high costs of healthcare, acute care facilities have required speedy revenue recovery mechanisms to survive. To run more efficiently, hospitals are turning to information resources management and automating clinical and fmancial applications which provide administrators with the management information they need to make cost effective decisions. The increased importance and cost of information resources management have spawned the growth of healthcare information systems (HCIS) consulting practices.
