Abstract

To become part of a technologically advanced medical environment, nurses must master the new skills required to manage the computerized hospital information system. In most cases, nurses either have not used such systems before, or have had minimal exposure to them. Yet nursing effectiveness is directly related to the speed and accuracy nurses bring to this core communications vehicle. The assimilation of nurses into the culture of the computer is essential not only to patient care but also to the well being of the care givers themselves.
