Nurses and Computers: At the Point of Care
Hospitals today face many challenges and must address critical issues which grow out of societal expectations of healthcare and biomedical technology in a time of increased financial constraints. For hospitals, however, one constant remains in the volatile and ever changing field of healthcare: Patients are admitted to hospitals to receive nursing care. In fact, this has never been as true as it is today. Virtually every test is now available on an outpatient basis. Surgical procedures are performed in physician offices or surgical centers. Only when the patient’s condition requires continuous monitoring on a 24 hour basis is admission to a hospital required.
