Abstract
Chronic pain is pain that persists beyond the usual healing time for tissue injury. It may or may not represent continuing tissue pathology. Family physicians encounter many nonmalignant disease states that involve chronic pain, such as headache, trigeminal neuralgia, neck injury, low back problems, arthritis, and peripheral neuropathy.
