As computer technology continues to streamline the radiology practice with more data becoming digital, new technologies are becoming largely ubiquitous. The impetus to utilize technologies is two-fold. Firstly, despite constraints on healthcare spending, the past several years have experienced a continuing increase in use of the healthcare dollar for radiology services. With this continual increase, there has been a demand for improved performance sheerly due to volume. This has forced the radiologist to deal with the task of providing increased services more efficiently in terms of both time and cost. In the analysis of steps of image workflow that can be modified, dictation and transcription represent key bottlenecks.
