The analysis of contingency tables is an important component of contemporary research. Exact and nonasymptotic analyses of contingency tables are investigated in this chapter. For large sparse r-way contingency tables, nonasymptotic procedures are shown to yield very close approximations to the exact P-values for selected tests when the number of reference tables is large. The hypergeometric distribution conditioned on fixed marginals is the basis for r-way contingency table analyses.
