Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in the Treatment of Cancer

Abstract

Lymph node metastases represent the single most important prognostic indicator in most solid tumors. In general, prognosis is directly related to the number of nodes involved, particularly in patients with melanoma,1 breast,2,3 and colorectal4 carcinomas.5 This basic concept has resulted in the use of regional node dissection for both staging and cure.
