Abstract
The study of changes in a response variable as a function of time or a timerelated variable has many facets. In some instances, the models and methodology of previous chapters may be applied with modification. In a significant number of applications, special models and methodology are required to provide for the lack of independence of responses that arises because of repeated sampling of one unit or subject. The purpose of this section is to provide guidance in the identification of the correct statistical model and methodology. Sections 21.2 and 21.3 introduce a special area of statistics known as time series analysis. Section 21.4 discusses the basis and the practical application of statistical quality control.
