Statistics (i): An Introduction to Statistical Inference
Statistics is the method by which we analyze data in whose generation chance has played some part. In practice, it consists of two main areas: estimation and hypothesis testing. Both of these are used extensively in bioinformatics. In this chapter we give a brief introduction to estimation and hypothesis testing ideas: A more complete discussion of both is given in Chapter 8.
