Multiple Views and Image Sequences
Vision is considered to be the most powerful sense that human beings possess. It provides us with a considerable amount of information about our environment and enables us to navigate in the three-dimensional world without physical contact. The two images captured in our visual system produce disparities on the retina which are exploited for 3D measurements of the surroundings. This allows us to learn the position of objects and the relationships between them, even under varying illumination conditions. Taking into account this remarkable performance of the human visual system and the processing unit behind, it is no surprise that technical systems try to imitate the human visual capabilities. The corresponding research area is denoted as Machine Vision and has already found implications in a wide variety of technical applications.
