The Design of Evolutionary Guidance Systems

Part of the Contemporary Systems Thinking book series (CST)

Design, in the context of evolutionary inquiry, is a creative, decision-oriented, disciplined inquiry that aims to formulate expectations and aspirations for our evolutionary future. We create a value-based ideal image of the evolutionary system we wish to design. Then, based on the image, we define and design our evolutionary guidance system (EGS). As we engage in the design of our EGS, we formulate alternative representations of the future system, devise criteria by which to evaluate those alternatives, select and describe the most promising alternative, and prepare a plan for the development of the selected design.
