Laparoscopic Aortic Surgery

Abstract

The ability to access various body parts remotely through tiny incisions has revolutionized the practice of surgery with minimally invasive surgical (MIS) techniques. The development of superior optics, video imaging equipment, and design of instrumentation to work remotely has grown rapidly. A growing number of surgical disciplines have been applying these advances focusing predominantly on gastrointestinal, gynecologic, urologic, and general thoracic procedures and more recently on coronary bypass surgery. Provided it allows equivalent immediate and long-term results, a less invasive treatment can replace a more invasive one if it improves the patient’s well-being and decreases overall cost.
