Endovascular Treatment of Traumatic Arteriovenous Fistulas and Pseudoaneurysms and of Arterial Occlusive Disease
The incidence of arterial injuries continues to increase owing either to urban crime and violence or the widespread use of invasive interventional procedures.1,2 The close proximity of arteries to veins makes them vulnerable to the formation of arteriovenous fistulas and pseudoaneurysms when subjected to penetrating or iatrogenic trauma. Operative management is often complex owing to hemorrhage from an arterialized venous bed or difficult access, which may require morbid surgical exposures. The concept of minimally invasive endovascular techniques to exclude traumatic arteriovenous fistulas or to bypass pseudoaneurysms was realized with the introduction of stented grafts.
