Abstract
Children with exstrophy are born with the bladder exposed and an open pelvic ring. Several types of pelvic osteotomies have been developed to decrease the stress on the initial exstrophy closure through closing the pelvic ring. Shultz (1958) first described the bilateral posterior iliac osteotomy as part of a two-stage repair of bladder exstrophy.11 The earliest outcomes studies of this osteotomy were done by O’Phalen (1963) and Aadalen (1979).8,1 This pelvic osteotomy so far has been shown to lower rates of wound dehiscence and to help obtain a more secure and better genitourinary reconstruction.8,1
