Pelvic Fractures

  • Michael J. Hejna

Pelvic fractures are usually the result of high energy trauma. They may be life threatening due to hemorrhage from large bleeding bony surfaces and disruption of the pelvic venous plexus. They are frequently associated with intrapelvic and abdominal visceral trauma. The workup and management of these injuries must be carried out in conjunction with the efforts of the trauma team.
