Abstract

A first requirement for the establishment of a cosmic distance scale is the correct measurement of distances within the Solar System. The basic step in this procedure is the measurement of the distance to Venus. The most precise way of obtaining this distance is through the use of radar techniques. Another method is described in Problems 2–2 and 2–3 at the end of this chapter.
