Abstract

What are the determinants of the life span of household equipment? This study focuses, in particular, on a relationship between the durability of household equipment and the following variables:
  1. 1.

    the relative price of repair services (in comparison with the prices of new equipment);

  2. 2.

    change in consumer purchasing power (defined as the average per capita income compared to the price of new equipment);

  3. 3.

    changes in consumption patterns (e.g. a move away from collective to individual consumption, demand for imported equipment and a shift in purchasing power);

  4. 4.

    price ratio of new equipment and energy.
