Abstract

This contribution defines a new manufacturing paradigm and investigates its adoption and performance within the assembly industry on a global basis. The paradigm is based on a set of basic principles for designing and managing production systems that discard the traditional way of organising manufacturing activities and apply across companies that pursue different manufacturing strategies and implement different innovative techniques.
