Structural Phase Transitions in Miscellaneous Systems

  • Minoru Fujimoto

In Chapter 9, transition anomalies in oxide perovskites, TSCC, and BCCD crystals were described in some detail as examples to facilitate the concept of order-variable condensates. In this chapter, we look at other systems of interest on the basis of the knowledge acquired from these examples to see how much of the transition mechanism can be elucidated. While principles for pseudospin condensates discussed in Part One provide a useful guideline, phase transitions in crystalline systems are of such an enormous variety that no systematic description is possible at the present stage. We therefore focus our attention on structural changes in representative systems that were studied intensively, to conclude our discussion.
