Using the Computer to Manage Change in the Clinical Pathology Lab

Abstract

The current medical economic scene has changed and has in many cases expanded the traditional role of the laboratory information system (LIS). To realize the medical and administrative benefits that an LIS offers, healthcare institutions need to evaluate the strategic role of an LIS and then enter carefully into the selection and implementation process. Functional advances that laboratories can realistically expect to see in the near future should influence their choice of systems today.
