Abstract

The true techie says, “If it can be done, it should be done!” The true bean counter says, “Show me a detailed cost-benefit analysis—and I don’t want to see any of those phony soft benefits included!” In economic terms, today’s optimal health informatics strategies lie somewhere between these two extremes. Health care systems everywhere are facing increased economic pressures; therefore, our informatics thrusts must recognize and adapt to these pressures.
