Abstract

Many of the veterans who sought professional help for war-related emotional injuries approached the IDF psychiatric clinics months or years after their first tours of duty in Lebanon in the summer of 1982. Some came following a life crisis, most in connection with a subsequent call-up to reserves. As time elapsed from that summer of heavy fighting, more and more men who had not had diagnosed breakdowns in Lebanon filed into our offices with all of the characteristic symptoms of PTSD. By 1985, the third year of this study, they constituted about half of all our cases.
