Intergenerational Equity

Part of the Environmental Science Research book series (ESRH, volume 45)

I will not discuss how to allocate entitlements now and in the future but will instead point out the enormous complexity of this problem, involving both international and intergenerational issues. I’ll consider myself fortunate if I can say something useful about the intergenerational issues. Bill Nitze talked about, and Dale Jamieson demonstrated, the need for a new way of thinking about ethics and future generations. I consider my remarks to be complementary to their comments and will discuss the same theme although I will focus on one particular aspect of it.
