Chronic Renal Tubular Damage Caused by Cyclosporin A

Some degree of renal dysfunction occurs in virtually all patients receiving the immunosuppressant cyclosporin A (CsA) and a variety of animal models have been employed to study this process. Although the rat model has been relatively successful in mimicking the functional aspects of CsA nephrotoxicity (Blair et al., 1982; Thomson et al., 1984; Mihatsch et al., 1986), there has been less correspondence between the renal structural effects of CsA in man and experimental animals.
