Effect of Furosemide and Verapamil on Gentamicin Nephrotoxicity

  • Chapter
Book cover Nephrotoxicity

Abstract

While furosemide (F), a potent loop diuretic, has been known to potentiate gentamicin (G) nephrotoxicity (1), verapamil (V), a calcium entry blocker, has been postulated to attenuate gentamicin nephrotoxicity (2). We have therefore examined the effect of furosemide or verapamil co-administration with gentamicin on renal gentamicin accumulation.
