Poynting Vector, a Method to Describe the Mechanism of Power Conditioning

  • Chapter
Electromagnetic Modelling of Power Electronic Converters

Abstract

Qualitive analysis of electromagnetic energy flux as depicted by the Poynting vector, gives insight into the mechanism of power conditioning which is beyond the scope of classic circuit theory. It is contemplated that an understanding and eventually an analytical grip on energy flux and its interaction with matter is essential to optimise energy conversion at high switching frequencies.
