Prevalence and Incidence of Microalbuminuria in Non-Insulin-Dependent Diabetes: Relations to Other Vascular Lesions

Abstract

When sensitive methods for detecting albuminuria such as radioimmunoassay became available, it was demonstrated that even a slightly increased level of urinary albumin excretion was a predictor of a worse prognosis for non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) patients [1]. There have been several studies on the prevalence of nephropathy and proteinuria in diabetics, whereas epidemiologic studies of microalbuminuria are few.
