Microalbuminuria: An Appraisal of Assay Techniques and Urine Collection Procedures for Measuring Urinary Albumin at Low Concentrations

The concentration of albumin present in normal urine is usually undetectable by standard laboratory, colorimetric, precipitation, or “dipstick” methods and has led to the development of more sensitive immunologic techniques. These have been easy to establish as antibody to human albumin can be readily prepared and assay sensitivity is not a problem. This, in turn, has led to approximate agreement in the results and reference ranges produced by different methods.
