Abstract

In this chapter, we suggest a personal machine translation system. The machine translation system described here which takes advantage of on-line parsing and interactive sentence disambiguation, has a totally different philosophy from that of conventional machine translation systems. We have implemented an experimental system by extending an existing English Japanese machine translation system,11 to demonstrate feasibility of the interactive approach to machine translation. This pilot system adopts neither our parsing algorithm nor on-line parsing, and is far away from being practical, but some promising data have been found from experiments with the system.
